Tollcross, Glasgow. 7-10th April 2011

2011’s Scottish Age Group Championships was attended by a team of 10 swimmers from Perth City Swim Club, who certainly made a big impression, with 30 Finals placings, 6 Championship titles, 6 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals between them.
The Club’s rising stars were firmly in the limelight. Emily Horne took the bronze medal in her 800m freestyle, finishing just outside the medals in the 400m and 1500m freestyle events, with a 5th in the 200m free. In the boys 15 years age group, Roddy Horne produced a full set of personal best performances that took him to the finals of every session. Sandie Smillie too, joined them in showcasing her talents in the finals of the girls 15 years 200m breaststroke and 800m freestyle, while Tobermory MacKay-Champion made it through in the boys 13 years 100m and 200m breaststroke events. Also taking part in the Championships were new arrivals to Perth City Arran Todd and Paul Adamson, and we look forward to seeing more of them in the future.
In the 16-18 years age group, Camilla Hattersley and Stephen Milne continued their domination of the distance events. Camilla slashed 15 seconds off her personal best in the 1500m freestyle to take silver and Scottish Age Group Champion. An identical haul in the 800m freestyle was matched by Gold in the 400m freestyle, and finals finishes in the 200m freestyle and 400m Individual Medley. In the 16-18 boys, Stephen took Gold in the 1500m and 800m freestyle, Silver in the 200m freestyle, 400m Individual Medley and 400m freestyle, and Bronze in the 100m and 200m backstroke. Butterfly specialist Eamon Rivers crowned his final year of eligibility at the Scottish Age Groups with a phenomenal swim in the 100m, earning him Gold and a place in the elite squad at the University of Bath where he is in the first year of his degree course.
Well done to all swimmers, who brought in 214 points for the Club between them over the 4 days of the meet. Full results for every session are available at www.swimscotland.co.uk |
