Perth City Swim Club’s origins began in 1890 in its previous incarnation of Pullar’s Amateur Swimming Club. The present club was founded in 1988 when it moved to the new pool, and is affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association through SASA Midland District, which comprises clubs in Perth and Kinross, Angus, and Dundee. Perth City is a competitive swimming club, and members compete from local to international level under the Club banner.

Most training takes place at Perth Leisure Pool, Glasgow Road, Perth. The Club also provides coached sessions at Kilgraston School and Loch Leven Leisure Centre. As progress continues, swimmers may be invited to join in with training sessions held at the National Swimming Academy, University of Stirling.

The Club is committed to providing a safe, fun environment for all members, with a strong emphasis on team spirit and a sense of community. Swimmers are encouraged to develop good technique alongside continuous improvement in fitness and stamina. Skills such as diving and turns are developed along the way in order that athletes become ready to compete at an appropriate level for their stage of development, from the early stages of Club Championships, through novice competitions, then on to District and National level.

Following on from Friday Night Club, training is arranged by progression through our Squad structure. These Squads and Pathways allow all swimmers within the Club to progress at their own pace. It is a mainstay of Club policy that training is optimised to support swimmers to achieve their own individual goals within the sport, with many going on to develop their personal skills further as club volunteers.

As in all activities enjoyed by young people, progress and enjoyment are inextricably linked not just to the commitment of athletes themselves, but to the family support each receives to help them attain their goals. Perth City Swim Club has a very active volunteer community, and family members are encouraged to find roles that interest them, giving them the chance to find out more about the sport and be part of their swimmer’s journey (see our How to Volunteer page). Parents, grandparents and siblings are welcomed to the Club, and the support provided by families and friends of Perth City Swim Club contributes strongly to our swimmers’ and the Club’s success.

You can find out more about joining the Club as a swimmer or volunteer through our Join Us pages on this website.
